History states that long back, there was one festival wherein ladies of few communities used to put their blouses in a dark room. Men are supposed to come and pick one each randomly. Whoever gets the blouse will get to sleep with the woman who owns the blouse. But during one festival, a husband got his wife’s blouse and she lamented 'even during festival she got the same old hubby'.
Apparently, the origin of this festival was usually men used to go and sleep with prostitutes but women didn’t have such facilities to enjoy extra marital sex. So they also demanded the same. Since then, only like minded men used to take part in the festival. The rule is, women don’t reveal about the men they slept with during the festival and men should not ask as well. So, this is not something from the west. It was lying in our culture somewhere and got suppressed due to education and class mind mentality in people. But now, the culture seems to be emerging again. Recently, an incident happened at Madhapur. In one of the apartments, one block has got families and the other block has been given to service apartments. Regularly, many couples were being spotted and many were wondering if any event or get together was happening. But then, the couples used to be silent.
Out of enthusiasm, one apartment aunty did some detective work and got shocked on knowing the truth. Apparently, majority of the couples are live-in partners and not married. It is heard that among the couples, three pairs are Telugu, rest of them are Bengalis, Marathis and one is a Tamil pair. The swapping thing has not been exposed to media and police yet as few members in the apartment are now gathering evidence so that strict action can be taken on these pairs.
But is wife swapping a crime? That is another aspect. When like minded couples are enjoying their 'private life' with peaceful and mutual interest and no involvement of money, will that attract the punishment of law and police?
